Biography

Wang Chengyuan works in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at China-Japan Friendship Hospital. He is a Chief Physician, Associate Professor, and Doctor of Medicine. He is a major promoter and pioneer of peripheral nerve injury and facial paralysis reconstruction surgery in China. He pioneered multi-nerve reconstruction (facial nerve–masseteric nerve anastomosis + facial nerve–hypoglossal nerve anastomosis); dual-innervated latissimus dorsi transfer for smile reconstruction; and dual-innervated small neck muscle transfer for smile reconstruction. He was the first in China to carry out correction of asymmetric crying facies; highly selective nerve and muscle transection for facial paralysis sequelae; and smile reconstruction for Moebius syndrome. His surgical quality and volume are among the leading levels in China and internationally recognized.

Areas of Expertise:
1. Nerve injury and facial paralysis repair. He is a pioneer and major promoter of nerve injury and facial paralysis reconstruction surgery in China, having pioneered revolutionary procedures such as small muscle transplantation, multiple facial nerve reconstruction, and dual-innervated latissimus dorsi transfer; filled multiple technical gaps in the field of facial paralysis treatment; and has significant influence domestically and internationally. 
2. Facial lifting and rhytidectomy. He performs facial lifting and rhytidectomy under facial nerve monitoring and protection, including deep-plane rhytidectomy; high-SMAS rhytidectomy; composite tissue flap face and neck lift, and other techniques. He treats complications of facial nerve injury after rhytidectomy and has significant influence domestically and internationally.
